Excellent condition UDC Cross of Military Service. Original ribbon with wrap brooch. The medal is gilt bronze and numbered on reverse 7469. Name is not available through the rolls. Made and marked MEDALLIC ART CO. NEW YORK. Includes the dolphin device which signified overseas service for the recipient.
The United Daughters of the Confederacy created the Cross of Military Service to recognize military service during World War I by lineal descendants of Confederate soldiers and sailors. The medals were available by application from the UDC and could carry a small bronze dolphin device on the ribbon to signify overseas service. The UDC retired the award in 2011. Records are unclear when the UDC stopped recording the medal numbers, but there are just over 5500 names on this roll.
