In November 1933, the Protestants in Germany celebrated the 450th birthday of Martin Luther. The following article primarily addresses the power political conflicts within the Church in 1933, which were also negotiated as part of the Luther anniversary, an event deemed to have a symbolic significance. Although in large parts of the Reich, it was possible to stage an event publicly demonstrating the unity of the Church, state and the Nazi Party for one last time, the grand idea of making the 10th of November into a magnificent Protestant national holiday failed miserably.
