German KVK2 War Merit Cross Second Class

Constructed of gilt bronze, consisting of a Maltese Cross, the obverse with pebbled arms, with a central wreathed mobile swastika. Very good condition, with original ribbon.

This award was created by Adolf Hitler in October 1939 as a successor to the non-combatant Iron Cross which was used in earlier wars (similar medal but with a different ribbon). The award would recognize bravery or service in the furtherance of the war effort that fell short of the award of the Iron Cross.
