German Luftwaffe EM/NCO Breast Eagle Patch Blue Backing

Machine embroidered, second pattern, (1938-1945), Luftwaffe eagle. Silvery/grey rayon threads, mounted on a unique green-blue wool with cotton backing. The backing material has separated from the eagle, but both are in very good condition. Measures 85mm along wingtips. Uniform removed with sticking holes present. The green-blue wool base is unique and may be for a distinctive uniform of the Luftwaffe.

The Luftwaffe was the aerial-warfare branch of the Wehrmacht before and during World War II. Germany’s military air arms during World War I, the Luftstreitkräfte of the Imperial Army and the Marine-Fliegerabteilung of the Imperial Navy, had been disbanded in May 1920 in accordance with the terms of the 1919 Treaty of Versailles which banned Germany from having any air force.
