1938 silvered aluminum cap badge being the RAD emblem of an upright spade head, whose vertically ribbed border is painted red, with a mobile swastika, cross-hatched and enameled black, to its center, and with sprigs of barley extending upward from either side of the spade’s base. Both round aluminum prongs complete. Marked on reverse HV 37 GES GESCH with RAD emblem.
The cloth patch replaced the metal badge in 1938.
The Reich Labour Service (Reichsarbeitsdienst; RAD) was a major paramilitary organization established in Nazi Germany as an agency to help mitigate the effects of unemployment on the German economy, militarise the workforce and indoctrinate it with Nazi ideology. It was the official state labour service, divided into separate sections for men and women.
