WWI-era gilt and enameled stickpin for membership in the BDMA, or Association of German Military Candidates. Beautifully enameled in multi-colors. Marked on reverse JC GANTE BERLIN. Measures 23mm tall with a 49mm pin.
It was founded in 1904 and goes back to the Berlin and Surrounding Area Military Candidates and Invalids Association, which was founded in 1893. In 1905 the association already had 36,000 members and grew to 74,000 members by 1914. It dissolved shortly after WWI ended.
