German Gebirgsjäger Edelweiss Flower Mountain Troops Cap Badge GB 1941
$74.97
Two piece, die stamped, silver washed alloy construction mountain cap, edelweiss with an extended, dual leaf stem, nine extended, irregular petals and a separate, gilt washed, alloy, six bulb stamen.
The stamen is secured to the edelweiss by two bent over prongs that are visible on the reverse. The edelweiss has four small pin holes in the petals and one in the stem for stitching it to the cap. The reverse of the badge is a mirror image of the obverse. Maker marked “GB 41”.
The edelweiss was the symbol of Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS Gebirgsjäger, or mountain rangers worn as a metal pin on the left side of the mountain cap, on the band of the service dress cap, and as a patch on the right sleeve. It is still the symbol of the mountain brigade in the German Army.
