German Luftwaffe General’s Tropical Pith Helmet Cap Eagle Badge

Gilt Tombac metal eagle with all flat-wire prongs intact, unmarked; in very good condition. Measures 65 mm across wings. For the Luftwaffe’s tropical pith helmet used in North African (DAK) service. Much of the original gilding is gone, but about 35% still remains mostly in the recessed areas of the front and most of the reverse. All three Tombac prongs in very good condition with some darkening and fibers from the display case it was in for apparently a great deal of time.

The Luftwaffe was most active in North Africa from 1941 through 1943. They consisted generally of Flak Artillery units and the Fliegerführer Afrika with fighter and ground support aircraft.
