The Association for German Cultural Relations Abroad e. V. (VDA) was a cultural organization in Germany. The association saw itself as a cultural mediator and link between the Germans living around the world, with whom he maintained a variety of contacts, and the German motherland. The VDA saw it as its task, the German language and culture abroad by supporting intensive youth exchanges, from Germany’s institutions such as e.g. B. promote schools and kindergartens as well as foreign German media and publications. The club had a long, almost 140-year-old, history and some renamings. Founded in 1881 as a general German School Association for the preservation of Germanism abroad, it was renamed the Association for Germanism abroad in 1908, Schulverein e. v., then in 1933 again renamed the Volksbund for Germanism abroad.
